📌 KEY POINTS:

👉 PHARMACOLOGY: The interactions between the living system and various substances (drugs).

👉 A drug is a substance used for:

  • Prevention (e.g., BCG vaccine for TB).
  • Diagnosis (e.g., barium sulfate in X-ray imaging).
  • Cure (e.g., INH for TB treatment).

👉 Two important Branches of pharmacology are—
1. Pharmacokinetics
2. Pharmacodynamics.

🔹 PHARMACOKINETICS: Study of drug movement in the body (what the body does to the drug).

🔹 PHARMACODYNAMICS: Study of drug effects on the body (what the drug does to the body).

🔹 PHARMACOGENETICS: Study of genetic basis for variability in drug response.

🔹 PHARMACOGENOMICS: Using genetics to personalize drug selection and dosage.

🔹 PHARMACOVIGILANCE: Monitoring and preventing adverse drug effects.
