Write short note on Histology of Osteoclasts

OSTEOCLASTS:

Osteoclasts are the cells which resorb the bone. Osteoclasts are derived from circulating monocytes. They are large giant cells with multiple nuclei. These cells occupy irregular resorption bays called Howship’s lacunae.

Histology of Osteoclasts

Osteoclasts are large, multinucleated cells responsible for bone resorption. They derived from hematopoietic stem cells of the monocyte-macrophage lineage. The key histological features are:

1.Multinucleation:

  • Large cells (20–100 µm) with multiple nuclei (usually 5–20 per cell).
  • Reflecting their origin from the fusion of mononuclear precursors.
