πŸ”ΉThe larynx is the voice box – a short, tubular structure involved in phonation, breathing, and protection of lower airways.

πŸ”ΉExtends from C3 to C6 vertebrae.

πŸ”ΉLocated in the anterior neck, continuous above with the laryngopharynx and below with the trachea.

1. CARTILAGES OF THE LARYNX

A. Unpaired Cartilages

  • Thyroid cartilage – Largest; forms Adam’s apple (laryngeal prominence).

  • Cricoid cartilage – Signet-ring shaped; only complete ring of airway.

  • Epiglottis – Leaf-shaped; prevents food from entering larynx during swallowing.
