📌 INTRODUCTION

🔹The muscles of the head and neck perform crucial roles: facial expression, mastication, speech, swallowing, and neck movements.

🔹Classified based on location and function.

🔍 MUSCLES OF FACIAL EXPRESSION

  • Supplied by Facial Nerve (CN VII)

  • Located in subcutaneous tissue – insert into skin, not bone

➡️ Main Groups & Examples:

  • Scalp: Occipitofrontalis

  • Around eye: Orbicularis oculi

  • Around nose: Nasalis

  • Around mouth: Orbicularis oris, Levator labii, Buccinator, Zygomaticus major

  • Neck: Platysma

🔍 MUSCLES OF MASTICATION

  • Supplied by Mandibular nerve (V3 of CN V)

  • Insert on mandible – help in chewing (elevation, depression, side movement)
